PROGRAM DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
Welcome to the First-Year Integrated Program (FIP)! You are a most fortunate group to be the inaugural class for this terrific new academic opportunity at UCI. The faculty, graduate teaching assistants and the program directors are all very excited to be able to offer you the chance to have a small college academic experience in the setting of a major research institution - the best of two very different academic worlds.
The faculty and graduate students who are teaching your course are all actively engaged in research related to the topics covered in your course sequence and look forward to sharing their passion and enthusiasm for their fields with you. In addition, you are surrounded by a select group of fellow students with similar interests to your own.
Perhaps your FIP sequence will lead you to change your major, decide on a major on which you were uncertain or add a second major or minor. Or, perhaps, it will help you to eliminate certain majors and minors from consideration. Even if this sequence does not affect the main path your academics at UCI take, it will help you to get off on a good footing, to meet like-minded peers and to get to know a few of our fabulous faculty.
It is our hope that you will be as energized by being a part of this program as we are about helping to make it a reality here at UCI.
Have a great year!
