Spotlight:
We are pleased to announce that our Civic & Community Engagement Committee has been reorganized into an Advisory Council format. This will allow the Office of Civic & Community Engagement to benefit from the insights and expertise of all of our stakeholder groups as we move forward in developing projects that are sustainable, address concrete community issues and facilitate knowledge exchange between the university and our communities. Thanks to all of our Advisory Council members for your committment to this work!

Welcome
UCI's Office of Civic and Community Engagement is committed to working in partnership with all of our stakeholders to create sustainable solutions for our most pressing social problems. We do this collaboratively, by strengthening relationships between students, faculty, staff, community based organizations, and community members. Our office supports a Minor in Civic & Community Engagement, engaged student leadership, community based action research, political engagement, and a sustainable approach to community building. Through our efforts, we align the resources and expertise of a world class university with the knowledge and strengths of diverse communities in order to address issues of social justice through community service learning and civic engagement. We invite you to partner with us as we educate our communities about civic and community engagement, motivate individuals to act in solidarity around issues of concern, and connect all stakeholder groups through praxis on the local, national, and global levels. |
Miss Representation Panel Discussion - 5/3/13
We would like to thank everyone whose presence made our interactive Miss Representation panel discussion a huge success! The panel was held in the UCI Cross Cultural Center Ring Room and it focused on stereotypes of around gender, race, and sexuality. We brought together a panel from UCI and the surrounding community to discuss the ways that stereotypes have personally impacted them and everyone contributed their thoughts about what we can do to effect change. The event was very well attended with over 85 participants including students, staff, faculty, and community members. |

We would also like to thank our panelists (left to right): Jackie Gomez-Whiteley, Chief of Police, Cypress, CA; Zahabiyah Khorakiwala, UCI CARE Violence Prevention Coordinator; Dr. Marcelle Holmes, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Wellness, Health and Counseling Services; Dr. Arlene Keizer, Associate Professor, English & African American Studies; Mike Knox, Interim Director, New Student Programs, Student Life & Leadership.
